Job SummaryChristus Health is seeking a highly skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist Lead to join our team. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for coordinating patient and staff schedules, maintaining Interventional Radiology protocols, and mentoring new associates.Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient and staff schedules to ensure proper coverage at all times and sites.
• Maintain Interventional Radiology protocols in coordination with radiologists and communicate changes to IR associates.
• Mentor and precept new associates.
• Mentor and coordinate Interventional Radiology students.
• Introduce yourself to the patient, identify the patient with two identifiers, and communicate with the patient regarding all aspects of the procedure.
• Place the patient on the table, making the patient comfortable with pads, support sponges, blankets, etc.
• Obtain pertinent history from the patient, ascertain any contraindications for performing the exam, and provide patient care based on evaluation of the patient.
• Obtain and examine the requisition to be fully aware of information such as procedure requested, patient's condition, and any special notes.
• Observe the patient's condition and report immediately any unusual signs, symptoms, or occurrences to the radiology nurse or physician.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of work performed.
• Obtain and verify written or electronic orders on all outpatients.
• Scan all outpatient orders, consents, and questionnaires (as needed) into PACS with the procedure performed.
• Verify that proper lab work was performed, if applicable, prior to the procedure and communicate findings with the physician and/or nurse.
• Assist the physician in performing diagnostic and therapeutic exams while utilizing sterile techniques.
• Maintain familiarity with supplies used in the Vascular Interventional Department and their uses.
• Be prepared to respond quickly and accurately to emergency situations associated with special procedures.
• Have a thorough understanding of all lab values pertinent to the patient and the safe outcome of the procedures.
• Be able to work in all areas of the department as necessary to increase patient throughput.
• Be familiar with different protocols for each procedure for the different radiologists.
• Properly follow protocol in notification and documentation of all contrast/medication reactions.
• Use proper quality control techniques.
• Complete all requisitions in the Radiology Information System, entering all charges and clinical data as necessary.
• Demonstrate flexibility by working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or required.
• Transport patients as necessary.
• Follow up with patient complaints, reporting to the supervisor and filling out an Event Report as necessary.
