Job DescriptionDescriptionSummary:The Interventional Radiology
Technologist is a professional who assesses, implements,
coordinates, monitors, and evaluates patient care activities.
He/she has clinical and/or functional knowledge of position for
which they are accountable either directly or indirectly through
delegation of tasks. Behavior and communication skills must align
with the organizations mission, values and culture.CHRISTUS Spohn
Hospital Corpus Christi-Shoreline overlooking Corpus Christi Bay is
the largest and foremost acute care medical facility in the region,
with a full range of diagnostic and surgical specialty services in
cardiac, cancer and stroke care. It is the leading emergency
facility in the area and the only Level II Trauma Center in the
Coastal Bend, staffed with physicians and nurses specially trained
in emergency services.
- The Pavilion and the Critical Care Center house a
state-of-the-art Emergency Department, ICU, Cardiac Cath Lab and
surgical suites.

in one convenient location.Responsibilities:•Meets expectations of
the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of
Others, or Leader of Leaders.•Coordinate the patient and staff
schedules in conjuction with Supervisor to ensure proper coverage
at all times and sites.•Maintain the Interventional Radiology
Protocols in coordination with the Radiologists and communicate
changes to IR associates.•Mentor and precept all new
associates.•Mentor and cordinate Interventional Radiology
students.•Introduce yourself to the patient, identify the patient
with two identifiers, and communicate with the patient regarding
all aspects of the procedure.•Places patient on the table making
the patient comfortable with pads, support sponges, blankets,
etc.•Obtains pertinent history from the patient. Ascertains any
contraindication the performing exam. Provides patient care based
upon evaluation of the patient.•Obtains and examines the
requisition to be fully aware of information such as procedure
requested, patient's condition, and any special notes.•Observes
patient's condition and always reports immediately any unusual
signs, symptoms, or occurrences to Radiology nurse or physician. If
not available, to the ED staff.•Insures accuracy and completeness
of work performed.•Obtains and verifies written or electronic
orders on all out patients.•All out patient orders, consents, and
questionnaires (as needed) are scanned into PACS with the procedure
performed.•Verifies that proper lab work was performed, if
applicable, prior to procedure and communicates findings with
physician and/or nurse.•Assist physician in performing diagnostic
and therapeutic exams while utilizing sterile techniques.•Must be
familiar with supplies used in the Vascular Interventional
Department and their uses.•Must be familiar with emergency
situations associated with special procedures and must possess
ability to respond quickly and accurately to all situations that
occur in the Vascular Interventional Department.•Must have a
thorough understanding of all lab values pertinent to the patent
and the safe outcome of the procedures.•Be able to work in all
areas of the department as necessary to increase patient through
put.•Be familiar with different protocols for each procedure for
the different radiologists.•Properly follows protocol in
notification and documentation of all contrast / medication
reactions.•Uses proper quality control techniques.•Completes all
requisitions in the Radiology information system entering all
charges and clinical data as necessary.•Demonstrates flexibility by
working other shifts and at other campuses as needed or
required.•Transport patient at necessary.•Follow up with patient
complaints reporting to supervisor and filling out Event report as
necessary.Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology or
other accepted and approved equivalent required
- Two years of experience in Vascular Interventional
required
- Customer service and telephone skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients,
associates, and other departments
- Current State Licensure required
- Current BLS (American Heart Association) required
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiology
required
- Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) or Cardiovascular
Interventional Radiography (CV) by ARRT required
- Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferredWork Schedule:5
