General Purpose of Job:
Reporting to the Department Director and Coordinator and under the
supervision of a physician responsible for providing support
functions necessary within Orthopaedics Services and assisting the
physicians/other nursing staff in providing pediatric services in
accordance with hospital policies and procedures to infants,
children, and adolescents of the designated location. Functions
include but are not limited to: maintaining supplies in the ER, OR
and Orthopaedic area; application/removal of casts, and patient
education in regards to cast, splint, and harness
care/maintenance.

Maintains the utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are
ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity
guidelines.
Under the supervision of the physician observe patient status.
Assists physician in various treatments including removal of
foreign objects, fractures, and reductions; application/removal of
body casts, TLSD, molds for scoliosis patients; hematoma blocks;
bier blocks; arthrocentesis and laceration repair.
Assists physicians with the application of splints to all
extremities, clavicle braces, Pavlik harnesses, foam neck collars,
knee immobilizers, and crutch fittings.
Prepares and maintains the set up of traction, traction beds, and
the fracture and Risser tables.
Assists the physician on rounds and with inspections of traction
set-ups use for needed adjustments.
Responsible for collecting, maintaining, inventorying, ordering and
keeping equipment in serviceable condition.
Under the supervision of a physician, assist with cast
removal/application during clinic; in operating room.
Responsible for stocking and maintaining orthopaedics supplies in
the Cast Room.
Available "on-call" to assist Orthopaedic physicians when needed in
the Emergency Room for orthopaedic-related injuries; spinal taps
and laceration repair.
Responsible for stocking orthopaedic supplies in the ER rooms where
orthopaedic related injuries are treated.
Works with fellow Orthopaedic staff to periodically in-service
staff regarding cast and splint application and care.
Under supervision participates in patient/family education
regarding cast, splint, harness care and crutch walking.
Travel, as needed.
Flex hours based on volume
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to
three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
